When sports writers try to be funny…

6 Jun

I have a few friends in the print media, lots of them are genuinely funny, but they sprinkle in little shards of funny while writing their columns. It works in short doses, especially when it adds something to the story. This on the other hand? This could be the worst sports column I’ve ever read. Outside of Keith Olbermann, Dan Patrick, Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole, sports figures, especially columnists should stick to sports, not comedy. I agree that Bettman is a jerk, but this column is filled with so many terrible punchlines and bad jokes that you kind of almost forget the Bettman parts. We get it, you’ve just discovered pop culture references. Well done…

Pop Life + Bluesfest

9 Jun

By now you know that for the second straight year, Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest will have a stage in the Byward Market. That stage is the Pop Life stage. Pop Life is also the name of the exhibit that opens up this weekend at the National Gallery. In a nutshell, Pop Life is a combination of music, art & media. If you’re at all familiar with Andy Warhol, GO SEE THIS! There are some elements that are really gonna stir the pot, I’m stoked that this is in our home town!

Here’s a list of some of the artists whose works will be shown here in Ottawa.

Andy Warhol:

Jeff Koons:

Damien Hirst, who stirs up all kinds of shizz:

And Keith Haring whose name you may not recognize, but if you, or someone you knew went to the Amnesty International tour in Montreal back in the late 80′s or, owned a copy of the Very Special Christmas, you’d probably know his work:

Denis Armstrong from the Ottawa Sun got a sneak peek on his video blog, have a look.

Pop Life runs June 11th – Sept 19th 2010 @ the National Gallery of Canada. Catch City & Colour, Amanda Rheaume, Born Ruffians and more on the Pop Life stage at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest July 8th – 13th!
