Pack it up, pack it in…LET ME BEGIN!

Cubby is going LIVE in HALIFAX - stay tuned....

Goodbye Ottawa, it’s been a pleasure! If ya missed the news, after 15 years, I’m pulling up stakes and moving the Carson clique out east to become the new morning show host at LIVE 105 Halifax.

As a kid growing up in Aylmer, Quebec, I spent a TON of time in my room listening to my tiny clock radio when I should’ve been asleep, to stations thinking someday I wanna do that. It was a huge thrill the day I heard Ken ‘The General” Grant on 580 CFRA march me off on my birthday! I grew up listening to Geoff & Jim on CHEZ, Doug Veranelly, then, Brian Red Hot Scott and Pamela T. Newton on the Super City Morning Zoo on Energy 1200. Then came the station that would shape who I would become today, 54 ROCK. I was a student of Pat Cochrane, Shotgun Carter Brown, Bob Cowan, my hero’s Doc and Woody and the woman who would become my big sister in this business, the woman for which every standard is set for rock radio in Ottawa, the woman who made being wicked so much fun, Wicked Wendy Daniels.

I got the nickname Cub after I applied for a job at what 54 ROCK grew up to become, 106.9 The BEAR. I applied while wearing a bear costume. Actually, the only costume I could find to rent was a shitty looking teddy bear costume. I actually looked like one of those cub’s from the Golden Graham boxes. The guy who gave me and many successful radio people in this town our big breaks was Gord Taylor. Gord guided the ship for over 20 years and from day one, taught me how important is was for a radio station to have a connection with the community. Gord was the reason the BEAR became the official radio station of the Canadian Forces. He knew how important a slice of home meant.

I spent close to 10 years there, and worked with some great friends in Ottawa radio, Brad Dryden, Stuntman Stu, Steph Egan, Kath Thompson, Big E, Pete Travers, Jay Herrington, Kitty Dines, Scott Lear, Mauler & Rush, Race, Sandy, Kenny, Ed Hand, Cater and the Gunner, Mark and Nida @ Y, Steve Warne, Brent Corbeil, Gonzo, J-Man, Brian West, Carly D and yes, even you Dylan Black ;P

Rich, Bum, Noodles, Renee, Peaches, Bexter, Sammy, YOU guys made it fun in the halls at the BEAR! We were more than a team, we were a family. We were all in it together. But, things change.

I’m not gonna lie, my time there wasn’t always fun, especially the last few years. It was extremely hard at times, not to entertain you, the BEAR listeners ALWAYS made it a fun place to work. You guys were just as big a part of our lives as we were to you.

THANK YOU to Al Smith at BOB-FM for giving me another shot. You proved that you CAN go home again. Thanks to the CHUM Ottawa family and my friends @ Rogers TV for everything!

This is the biggest decision my wife and I have ever had to make. But, I leave with absolutely no regrets, not a single one. It’s not often when a hometown kid gets the chance to spend his whole career in his city. My dream was to be the morning show host at 106.9 The BEAR and I did that before I hit 40. Took the hits, got up for more and now I can’t wait to set up shop in one of the most beautiful cities in this country. As much as we’ll miss Ottawa, we can’t wait to raise a family in Halifax.

THANK YOU OTTAWA!! Except for you Mayor Larry O’Brien. I may forgive, but I’ll never forget.

Go Sens Go!

Citizens of Halifax, hang on to your f”ng hats….! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to move back for years. Thanks for giving me even more incentive. I know what it’s like to make a huge move like this, but I know you will look upon it as one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. Best of luck – you will love it there and will enjoy huge success!

I do want to thank you for allowing me to scream in the microphone when we were working the remote at Stereo Plus it was so much fun, even if it was for a second you made me feel a rush of energy at that moment.

Hey, Cub. The citizens of Cubawa will miss you! I’m still searching for a morning replacement, but no one can replace you! Looks like I’ll be listening via internet. All the best to you and your family – you deserve it!
